Edward Doane

   Very little is known of West Palm Beach lure designer Edward Doane. A 1926 Pflueger advertisement appearing in Field & Steam magazine features Doane holding a large snook and speckled trout, evidently caught using a Palomine. He was a prominent saltwater angler of that period and served as a pro staff advisor to Pflueger and other tackle companies.

   Doane is credited as being the designer of the topwater lure below. Note the tiny glass-eyes and obvious taper — this lure was designed to sashay across the surface.
