Jim Pfeffer
Orlando, Florida
c. 1930's

Jim Pfeffer was a short, opinionated man. And he could hardly stand it when someone he knew fished with lures other than his — especially from the same boat!

He and his wife, Betty, developed some of the most unusual and attractive lures of any Florida maker. Jim focused on fabricating the bodies, while Betty did much of the painting. In the early days, she used a copper window screen as a makeshift paint mask on some lures, others she dotted with the head of a matchstick. Both methods resulted in beautiful scale patterns.

Without a doubt, Jim Pfeffer's lures epitomize Florida folk-art lure making!
